President’s Address

Toxicology in Singapore is still a developing discipline, with many individuals doing their utmost in their sprouting domain. Since the founding of Toxicology Society (Singapore) and its journey these six years, navigating sparse resources and manpower, the members of the society have tirelessly keep the momentum and passion for the society alive.

Chief amongst them is Dr R. Ponampalam. Senior Consultant. Department of Emergency Medicine, Singapore General Hospital and his committees the founding president who has provided leadership and direction for the society since our founding. I like to register my gratitude to Dr Ponampalam and his teams, thanking them for a job well done. Together with my team, I will strive to live up to his shoes. I will also like to register my thanks to 2016 APAMT organising committee and all who participated in working inexhaustibly to organise the very successful meeting and helping to put us on the regional map.

There are many exciting developments in toxicology in recent years. Clinical toxicologists are managing patients in observation wards, new antidotes are being explored. There are increase collaboration between the various fields of toxicology. We hope to build on the antecedent efforts of the society and members to propel the discipline of toxicology forward. We will continue to promote and advance the study of toxicology, to provide a platform for discussion amongst multidisciplinary professionals, to promote Toxicology as a clinical sub-specialty and to promote awareness of chemical safety.
